Economics of Crime and Risky Behaviors

Prof. Dr. Carmen Villa

The Economics of Crime and Risky Behaviors group studies how public policies influence youth engagement in crime and other risky activities. Our research focuses on adolescence, a critical period for the formation of behavioral patterns that shape later life outcomes. We examine how factors such as after-school activities, alcohol regulation, neighborhood environments, and extended education affect youth behavior, crime, and well-being. By combining administrative and survey data with quasi-experimental methods, our work aims to provide evidence that can guide policies reducing risky behaviors and improving life chances for young people.
