New Publication from the Risk and Resilience Research Group: Adolescent Cannabis Use and Cognitive Performance
We are excited to share a new paper by former Jacobs Center postdoctoral researcher Dr. Clarissa Janousch and her collaborators from the Zurich Project on Social Development from Childhood to Adulthood (z-proso), published in the International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction.
The study examines the longer-term associations of cannabis use during adolescence and young adulthood with cognitive functioning. Key findings include:
- Cannabis use at ages 13, 17, and 20 is linked to reduced attention and declarative memory at age 24.
- These negative associations are particularly pronounced among individuals who used cannabis almost daily or daily.
This research highlights the importance of understanding how early substance use is linked with cognitive outcomes in adulthood.
